Area Rugs... What to look for.

What do you look for in a rug? How do you find a good quality rug?  Look around.  The most important part of the process is finding out what appeals to you. Once you do that, you'll want to make some simple quality comparisons.

Hand Test—Run your hand back and forth over each sample. Feel for thickness and bulk, and enjoy the softness without worrying about performance.

Pile Density—With the pile facing toward you, bend the sample back to see how much of the backing shows through. The denser the pile, the less backing, the better resistance to wear and matting.

Twist—Carpet fibers are twisted together to enhance durability and provide a defined look. The tighter the twist, the better the durability, the more pleasing the look.

Backing - Turn the sample over and examine the backing. Make sure that the back has a tight weave. You don’t want to see through the secondary backing.
